The older diamond-shaped BMW fobs, like are not made to be used to replace batteries. The backplate is secured so removing it would cause damage to the fob. However, the latest fobs can be replaced with batteries by simply opening the key fob and swapping out the CR2450 or CR2032 battery. For the more popular smart key models (like the ones in the 1,3, 5, 7, and X series) you can use the small tab to release the valet key in metal and then open the access port by using a screwdriver or another thin tool. This should reveal a tiny groove. Make use of the tool to push the tab in and pull off the valet key to reveal the CR2032 batteries inside. Replace the old battery with a new one and then put the cover back on. You&#39;ll need to take another method if you have a Display key with a touchscreen. The Display Key is water-resistant but it is not waterproof like an ordinary fob. You will need to take care to avoid exposing to excessive moisture. While it can survive an immersion in the washing machine, it&#39;s best to treat it as you would treat a smartphoneDon&#39;t be concerned about rain, but keep it away from a water body.
